Hardscaping That Stands Up to Oregon Weather
Patios, walkways, fire pits, seat walls, and outdoor kitchens built on bases that do not move. Serving Portland, Salem, Eugene, and Corvallis.
Hardscape Design Built for the Pacific Northwest
Western Oregon is hard on stone and paver work. Eight months of rain soaks the ground, clay soil swells and shrinks with the seasons, and a few hard freezes each winter pry apart anything that was not built right. A patio that would last decades in Arizona can heave, crack, and grow gaps here within two or three winters if the base under it was rushed.
That is why we treat every hardscaping project as a base project first. Before a single paver or block goes down, we dig out the soft native soil, build up a compacted gravel base deep enough for our wet winters, and set the grade so water runs off the surface instead of pooling under it. The part you see is stone and craftsmanship. The part that keeps it flat for the long haul is buried underneath.
We design and build the full range of outdoor living space features: paver patios, walkways and front entries, fire pits, seat walls, steps, outdoor kitchens, and retaining walls that turn slopes into usable yard.
What Our Hardscape Contractors Build
Most projects start with one idea, a patio, a fire pit, a path that stops the mud, and grow from there once homeowners see what the space can do. Here is what we build most often:
Patios and Walkways
Pavers, natural stone, and flagstone surfaces for back patios, side yards, and front entries. We set every surface with a slight pitch so winter rain sheets off toward planting beds or drains instead of sitting against your foundation.
Fire Pits and Seat Walls
A fire pit stretches your patio season deep into the Oregon fall. We build wood-burning and gas fire pits ringed with block or natural stone, often paired with curved seat walls so the seating is permanent and never blows over in a storm.
Outdoor Kitchens
From a simple built-in grill surround to a full counter with storage and a bar top. We build the structural shell from concrete block and masonry units rated for outdoor use, so the kitchen shrugs off rain instead of swelling and rotting like wood-framed versions do.
Steps and Entries
Sloped front yards in Portland and Eugene often need a few stone steps to make the walk to the door safe in the rain. We build steps on compacted bases with even riser heights, so they stay level and predictable underfoot year after year.
Stone and Paver Work: Choosing Materials for Oregon
Not every material sold at the supply yard belongs in a Willamette Valley backyard. We steer customers toward concrete pavers, basalt, and dense natural stone that handle freeze-thaw cycles without flaking. Soft or porous stone soaks up our winter rain, then spalls apart the first time it freezes. We will walk you through samples and show you what each option looks like wet, because in Oregon, wet is how you will see it most of the year.
Color matters here too. Moss and algae shadow every outdoor surface in the Northwest, so we help you pick tones and textures that age well and clean up easily with a yearly wash.
- Concrete pavers in a wide range of shapes, colors, and textures
- Natural stone and basalt for a Pacific Northwest look
- Flagstone for informal paths and garden patios
- Wall block systems for seat walls, fire pits, and planters
- Permeable pavers that let stormwater soak through instead of running off
Why Hire Our Hardscape Contractors
Base Prep Done Right
We excavate, compact in lifts, and build gravel bases sized for wet Oregon soil, so surfaces stay flat instead of settling.
Drainage in Every Design
Every patio and walkway is pitched and graded so winter rain runs where we want it, not under your slab or into your crawlspace.
Materials Matched to the Climate
We only install pavers and stone that handle freeze-thaw cycles and constant moisture without flaking apart.
One Crew, Start to Finish
Design, excavation, base work, and finish work are handled by our own local crews, not subbed out in pieces.
Honest Scoping
If your soil, slope, or budget calls for a different approach, we say so up front, before the project starts.
